Isn't my dog getting enough from food?

Collagen holds your dog's skin, fur and joints in shape, the way a frame holds up a house. Your dog produces a bit less of it with every birthday. Kibble doesn't make up the gap: it's mostly meat and grain, and the collagen-rich parts (skin, cartilage, tendons) mostly stay out of the bag.

The skin is where the gap shows first. Thin, dry skin cracks easily, and the cracks are where the itch begins.

When does it start working?

Around week 3, when the first new skin has grown through: listen for quieter nights. The coat looks and feels softer by week 8. Don't judge it in the first 2 weeks: the change is still under the surface. Give it daily and let it build.

What's inside

In each dropper (1 ml):
Collagen peptides, types I and III (hydrolyzed): 900 mg
Type II collagen: 40 mg
Hyaluronic acid: 50 mg
Vitamin C: 50 mg

Other ingredients: purified water. Free of gluten, wheat, corn, soy and dairy.

How much to give

Once a day, mixed into food:
Dogs under 25 lb: 1 dropper (1 ml)
Dogs 25–75 lb: 2 droppers (2 ml)
Dogs over 75 lb: 3 droppers (3 ml)

Small dogs get about 2 months from a bottle, medium dogs about 1 month, large dogs about 3 weeks.

30-day guarantee

What customers say

Daisy before and after

The scratching stopped

Daisy scratched so hard at night her tags rang until 2 a.m. We tried 3 foods and 2 shampoos. Two weeks on the drops, the nights went quiet. Now she sleeps through, and so do I.

Karen D. · Daisy, 8 · Golden retriever · Columbus, OH

Penny before and after

Her paws finally healed

Penny licked her front paws red and raw every evening for a year. Three weeks in, she stopped. The skin between her toes is pink and healthy again, and the rust stains are growing out.

Michelle T. · Penny, 6 · Golden retriever · Tampa, FL

Bear before and after

No cone this summer

Every summer Bear got hot spots, and every summer he wore the cone 3 or 4 times. This year he hasn't had one. Same yard, same walks. The only thing we changed was the drops.

Jason W. · Bear, 5 · Pit bull mix · Denver, CO

Luna before and after

Fur grew back on the bald patch

Luna had a bald patch on her hip the size of my palm. Two months on the drops and it's covered in soft new fur. My kids can't stop petting it.

Angela M. · Luna, 7 · Black Lab · Raleigh, NC

Cooper before and after

Clean, calm ears again

Cooper shook his head and dug at his ears after every walk. Four weeks in, his ears are pale pink inside again and the head shaking has stopped.

Tom B. · Cooper, 9 · Cocker spaniel · Phoenix, AZ

Milo before and after

My picky eater takes it

Milo finds every pill, even wrapped in cheese. I put the dropper on his food and the bowl is empty in a minute. Six weeks later his coat is the softest it's ever been.

Diane P. · Milo, 10 · Shih tzu · Sacramento, CA

You've changed the food, but your dog still scratches.

It starts after dark. The thump of a back leg against the floor. The jingle of the collar. The licking that goes on and on. You get up, check the paws, look for fleas, and find nothing.

You've tried a new food, a new shampoo, maybe allergy pills or a shot from the vet. Each one helps for a week or two. Then the itch is back, because the skin underneath is still dry and thin. Dry skin cracks. Dust, pollen and grass get into the cracks, and the scratching starts again.

Age plays a part too. As dogs get older they produce less collagen, the protein their skin is made of, and a bowl of kibble doesn't replace it. It's not something you did wrong.

How it works

  • Stay on the surface, or calm the itch for a while.
  • The skin stays cracked.
Collagen drops falling onto dog foodFurShield drops
  • Build the new skin from the inside.
  • One dropper a day.

Shampoo works on the outside. Skin is built from what they eat.

Healthy skin is a tight wall that keeps pollen, dust and grass out. Most of that wall is collagen. When it dries out and cracks, those get in and the itch starts.

A shampoo or spray only touches the top layer, and it washes off in the next bath. Allergy pills and shots calm the itch for a few weeks, but the skin stays cracked, so the itch comes back.

Your dog's outer skin replaces itself about every 3 weeks, built from what your dog eats. FurShield drops go into the food and give that new skin the collagen it's made of. Each new layer grows in thicker and holds more water, so there are fewer cracks for the itch to start in.

  1. 01
    The main ingredient: 900 mg

Types I and III, the two kinds of collagen in skin and fur. It's cut into tiny pieces before bottling, so it's easy for your dog to take up.

  2. 02
    40 mg of type II

Helps calm the itch, and supports the joints of older dogs.

  3. 03
    Hyaluronic acid: 50 mg

Holds water in the skin, so it stays soft instead of dry and cracked.

  4. 04
    50 mg of vitamin C

The body uses it to make new skin out of collagen.

Picky small dog eating dinner with the drops

Picky eaters take it with dinner.

Pills get found inside the cheese and spat out. Chews get left in the bowl. These drops are a liquid that soaks into the food. Squeeze the dropper over dinner, stir, and it goes down with the rest. It takes about 10 seconds. If your dog is very fussy, start on a spoon of wet food.

Need to know

Frequently asked questions.

Still have a question? Email us at furshield@getfurshield.com

Will my picky dog eat it?

The liquid soaks right into the food. Your dog can't pick it out. If your dog is fussy, start by putting it on a spoon of wet food or a treat.

How many weeks is one bottle?

About 2 months for a dog under 25 lb, 1 month for 25–75 lb, and 3 weeks for over 75 lb. That's why the 3 and 6 bottle bundles cost less per bottle.

Why does the itch come back after allergy pills or shots?

Pills and shots calm the itch, but they don't change the skin. It stays dry and cracked, so pollen and dust keep coming through, and the scratching starts again once the dose wears off. The drops give the new skin the collagen it's built from, so it grows back thicker.

You can give them together: the drops go in the food next to anything your vet prescribed. If the itching settles, talk to your vet before you change a prescription.

We changed the food and it didn't help. Will this?

A new food takes away one trigger, but it doesn't build new skin. Dry, cracked skin still lets pollen and dust in. The drops give the skin what it's made of.

Fish oil, chews, drops: what's the difference?

Fish oil adds fats, and most chews are built around glucosamine for the joints. Neither gives the skin the collagen it's made of. Plenty of owners keep the fish oil and add the drops. Chews also get left in the bowl. A liquid mixed into dinner gets eaten with it.

Why hasn't my vet brought this up?

Allergy pills and joint chews have been around for years. Collagen drops for dogs are recent, so they don't often come up in a short appointment. Ask about it at your next check-up. It's a food ingredient, and it goes in the bowl next to anything your vet prescribes.

Sleeping through the night

Our golden used to wake us scratching his ears. Five weeks on the drops and the nights are quiet. Two droppers in the morning bowl, every day.

MH
Mike H.USA

Easy to use. The dropper is marked and my beagle doesn't notice it in her food.

PG

Coat is shiny again

Her coat had gone dull and coarse after the summer. Two months in, it's soft and shiny. My sister thought I'd switched shampoos.

RS
Rick S.USA

Good, a little slow

It took about four weeks before I saw less scratching. Now it's clearly better. Shipping took 12 days.

JK
Jenny K.USA

My frenchie licked her paws raw every evening. Now it's maybe once a day, and the red between her toes is gone.

Worth the 6 pack

Two labs, both itchy. We go through the 6 bottles in roughly 3 months. Less fur on the couch already.

DW
Debbie W.UK

I was skeptical about drops but it's the only thing she eats without a fight.

AP

Hard to say yet

Three weeks in, a little less scratching but not much. Will finish the bottles before I decide.

GT
Greg T.USA

No more 2 a.m. thumping

The thumping of his back leg on the wood floor used to wake me every night. It's been quiet for two weeks now.

LF
Lisa F.Australia

Bought 3 bottles for our westie. Her belly is less pink and she's stopped rubbing on the carpet.

So easy

Shake, squeeze, stir. Takes ten seconds. I keep it next to the dog food.

BA
Ben A.USA

Seems to help with the shedding. I'd like a bigger bottle for my 100 lb shepherd.
